PAPER WALLET MIGRATION

Required if your paper wallet:

  • Was made prior to March 3rd 2024
  • Has a VIEW KEY
  • Has a wallet address starting “ETN”

Electroneum has provided a dedicated tool to enable non technical users that have a paper wallet on the original Electroneum blockchain to migrate to the new EVM compatible blockchain – WITHOUT exposing (endangering) the private keys.

The software runs on a local computer or laptop, which prevents the private keys ever having to be sent or exposed to a third party.

The software can take between a couple of hours and possibly even more than a day to run, depending on the age of your old wallet and the power of the computer that the software is run on.

Once the software has run it will produce a new, password protected PDF with your NEW ETN address and private key on a more secure paper wallet. Ensure you remember the password for this new document!

The Desktop Smartchain Migration Tool For non-technical users, Electroneum released an official Desktop GUI Smartchain Migration Tool (available on GitHub for Windows, macOS, and Linux).The app connects to a legacy remote node (legacy-rpc.electroneum.com), scans your paper wallet’s transaction history on the legacy blockchain, and automatically transfers your ETN across the bridge to a new Smartchain (EVM-compatible) wallet. You will need three pieces of information to migrate your old wallet:

  • Public Wallet Address (Public Wallet on your paper wallet)
  • Secret Spend Key (Private Spend on your paper wallet)
  • Secret View Key (Private View on your paper wallet)

Download the installer for your operating system from the official Electroneum GitHub Releases repository.

Launch & Input Details:

Open the desktop migration tool and enter your paper wallet’s Public Address, Private Spend Key, and Private View Key when prompted

Synchronization Phase:

The app will connect to the legacy remote node and sync your paper wallet balance.

Note: Scanning and syncing can take anywhere from a few minutes to more than 24 hours depending on network traffic and wallet age.

Automatic Bridge Transfer:

Your legacy ETN is sent to the official migration bridge address. An oracle transaction automatically mints and deposits your equivalent ETN to your newly generated Electroneum Smartchain (EVM) address.

Receive Your Funds:

Once complete, the tool provides a confirmation message along with your New Smartchain Address and creates a new PDF paper wallet. You can then store the new paper wallet or import your private key into EVM-compatible wallets like Zypto (ETN fully integrated), or MetaMask (slightly more complicated) etc.

Security Reminder: Never share your private keys or seed phrases with anyone online or on unverified websites. Only download migration tools directly from Electroneum’s official GitHub releases.

The whole migration process can take anywhere from an hour to more than a day, depending on network traffic, the power of your computer and wallet age.
